Washing Machine Getting Old? 2 Problems To Watch Out For And How To Fix Them

If your washing machine is getting old, it may start having problems soon. It can help to know what could happen because if you get the washing machine fixed quickly it will prevent you from having to make more expensive repairs. Keep reading to learn of two common problems you may have and how to fix the washing machine.

Washer Will Not Drain

If you look inside your washer when the clothes are done washing and see a lot of water, then your washer has a drainage problem. This could be something simple, such as a clogged drain hose or the pump needing to be repaired or replaced.

You can remove drain hose yourself. If you are not sure where this is, refer to your washing machine's user's manual. Remove the hose and inspect it for any clogs. If you do see clogs, you can use a garden hose to flush the clogs out. Reattach the drain line and your washing machine should start draining properly.

If you did not find a clog in the drain hose, there could be a problem with the drain pump. In many cases, the drain pump may be jammed up. To repair this, you will first drain the washing machine until all the water is gone. Once you finish this, disconnect the hoses and look closely at them for any clogs. If you find clogs and remove them but the washer is still not draining, the drain pump may need to be replaced.

Washer Will Not Spin

If your washer will not spin when you start it up, this can be caused by many things. The simplest thing this could be is that the load you are washing is too large, causing the drum not to spin.

There could also be a problem with the switch that is close to the door frame. When you shut the washer door this switch turns on activating power to the washer. If there is a problem with the switch, then the washer will not spin or run at all. If there is a problem with the switch, it will have to be replaced.

A more serious problem is the drain pump. If this is the problem, you will likely hear a humming noise when the washer becomes full of water. If so, the drain pump will need to be replaced. This is something you should not do on your own because if not done correctly this could cause other problems.
